Shadys on a Tuesday Night - Relaxed venue with no cover charge, hardworking folks gather for hot wings and spirits, a haven to relax to live music from Freddie Vanderford & Brandon Turner who are two honest, pure, professional musicians who are a human jukebox of songs. Every Tuesday something magical will happen.
The good community of Union SC is home to Shadys which is a restaurant/bar is the place to be on tuesday evenings. For the past ten years the duo of Freddie Vanderford & Brandon Turner have performed there to entertain the crowd. Its one of those things I can tell you about but you can’t get it until you see it live and in person. With that being said I will try and paint the best picture I can in this article. Shadys is a place where there isn’t a certain crowd come to hang out such as the college kids or the bikers. Instead its diverse and open to all who come. The hot wings are the popular menu item and cold draft beer to wash it down with. The cozy atmosphere is decorated with everything from neon beer sign to the championship poster from the local Carolina Panthers . The service is always with a smile and the live music is always the true definition of what the genre of Americana is. Recently, I got to see them as I have many times and to see Brandon’s guitar that was autographed by NASCAR Legend Richard Petty. Brandon is the most professional picker I have ever seen in my life and ups his game every time. He makes it look easy and always compliments whomever he is playing with very well and is very humble for a guy who is “Just an Old mill hill picker” Its almost as if Brandon is that last piece of the lego that you need to built that building with. Freddie has earned the title of Buffalo Bocephus for his love of his hometown of Buffalo SC. Being the best dressed man in all of Union, Trans-south Wrestling GM and keeping the piedmont blues alive is what he does for a living. The duo always deliver armed with songs,guitar, vocals, harmonica and even the washboard. The two are the real deal troubadours who are doing what they love for a living. Any given Tuesday you're going to hear a take on Hank Sr, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, or something original. I say if you're in the good city of Union stop in and say Hello and make a request for a song you would like to hear.. Brandon always says with a smirk “We are taking request and if we don’t know it Freddie be glad to learn it for you” Thank you Shadys for hosting the duo for the past ten years. It is always a delight to see these guys do what they do.
